Author Richard Selcer Celebrating His Newest Book

FORT WORTH, TEXAS,  THAT’S MY TOWN

Hosted by The Fash Foundation and National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum

Fort Worth – A book signing with author Richard Selcer and illustrator Deran Wright will be held 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum, 2029 N. Main, in the Fort Worth Stockyards, to present a new young people’s history of Fort Worth, the first since 1967. Fort Worth, Texas, That’s My Town, is a collaborative effort by a noted Fort Worth author and a noted Fort Worth artist. It’s a story in step with modern times, about all the diverse people who make up our community in the 21st century. More than 20 years of research and writing went into it.

Fort Worth Texas, That’s My Town, has a wealth of illustrations by Deran Wright, the same artist who brought us the iconic sleeping panther statue in front of the County Administration Building. Wright meticulously researched the book’s people and events for the more than 80 full-color illustrations, and the result is a sweeping story told equally in words and pictures. The book’s target audience is readers 9-12 years old and is the perfect gift for your children, grandkids, nieces, and nephews. Think birthdays or get a jump on your Christmas shopping. Books will be for sale at the event, and the author and artist will be glad to autograph them on the spot. Imagine how your young person will love a book signed to them personally. Published by TCU Press (www.tcupress.com), the book is only available in hardcover.

Other art by Deran Wright will be on display, other titles by Richard Selcer will be available (cash or check only for these books), and light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public, but please register at

www.SelcerBookSigning.eventbrite.com, www.NMWHM.org  or by phone (817) 534-8801. Free parking is available.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM, FORT WORTH, TEXAS

Housed in the Fort Worth Stockyards at 2029 N Main Street, Fort Worth, Texas, 76164, and founded in 2001, the museum acknowledges the multicultural contributions of Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, European Americans, Asian and African Americans in the settlement of the American frontier. Works of artists and others who documented people and events of the time via journals, photographs, and other historical items are part of the Museum's collection of overlooked materials that tell, often for the first time, our complete story. Through various educational programs (e.g., storytelling sessions, "Forgotten Cowboys Tour," cultural heritage workshops, historical reenactments, participatory learning) at the Museum and in the community, the Museum shares our multicultural western heritage while instilling positive values of diversity, tolerance, hard-work, and determination. Visitors to the Museum and at our traveling exhibitions leave with an awareness that the American West came into being through the struggles and triumphs of racially and socio-economically diverse people.
